Mauresmo in fine form
Amelie Mauresmo booked her place in the third round with an easy win over
Slovakia's Ludmila Cervanova.
Mauresmo, the fourth seed, displayed glimpses of the form that took her
to the Australian Open final back in 1999.
The Frenchwoman lost just seven points in the opening set as she romped
to a straightforward 6-0 6-2 victory.
Mauresmo has struggled to live up to the promise she showed in reaching
the 1999 final, but appears to be in very good shape this year.
"I feel like probably there is an opportunity to take in this tournament,
not only because some players aren't here but because I feel good, because
my game is getting better and better," Mauresmo said.
"I still have a few things to improve on, but overall I think it's looking
good."
Mauresmo is in a good section of the draw where seventh seed Elena Dementieva
and 10th seed Nadia Petrova have already been knocked out.
She appears to have a straightforward passage to the last four where she
is scheduled to meet Justine Henin-Hardenne.
