French No. 28 seed Sebastien Grosjean is through to the second round
of the Australian Open for the eighth-successive year after his
first-round opponent Christophe Rochus retired in the second set.
Grosjean was leading the match 6-2 4-1 when the Belgian world No.74
pulled out of the tournament with breathing difficulties.
The Frenchman, whose previous best performance at the Australian Open
was a semifinal appearance in 2001, had dominated the first set,
breaking Rochus twice and wrapping it up in 35 minutes after the
Belgian won just one point on Grosjean's serve.
Grosjean continued his dominance in the second and 19 minutes in,
trailing 1-4, Rochus decided to pull the pin, handing Grosjean a
second-round match up with either Chris Guccione or Christophe's
brother Olivier.
