The unseeded combination defeated No.6 seeds and sentimental favorites Martina Navratilova and Leander Paes 36 63 62 in the final, having trailed 2-0 in the final set. "It was tough match today," said Hantuchova. "I think in the first set actually it was the first time we really wanted to win badly, and maybe that's why we were a little tired. But then we just relaxed and tried to enjoy it. We needed to play well to beat them, for sure." Hantuchova also won mixed doubles majors at 2001 Wimbledon (with Leos Friedl) and the 2002 Australian Open (with Kevin Ullyett). It was Santoro's first Grand Slam mixed doubles title, although he is a two-time winner of the Australian Open men's doubles title with compatriot Michael Llodra. "It's the 16th time I am competing in Roland Garros," said Santoro. "A title in Paris is great. Last year we failed just before we reached the goal. We (with Lldora) were runners up in men's doubles. As a junior, I won the title. But I can tell you, I held up the trophy of mixed doubles and it's something that's very important for me and in my career." Hantuchova and Santoro defeated four seeded teams en route to the title, including No.1 seeds Rennae Stubbs and Daniel Nestor in the second round. In a similar situation to the final, they trailed the Australian/American combination in the third set. Navratilova and Paes were aiming for their third Grand Slam title together after winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2003. They also reached last year's Australian Open final. Navratilova was hoping to win her 10th career Grand Slam mixed doubles title (third at Roland Garros) and 59th major title overall (singles, doubles and mixed combined). The 48-year-old legend is second on the all-time list behind Margaret Court, who won 62 Grand Slam titles in her distinguished career, including 11 Australian Open singles titles. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.230.20.190
