Hantuchova Blasts Bartoli

This summer Daniela Hantuchova has developed a new habit. It involves
beating Marion Bartoli in the first round of Grand Slam tournaments.
Ninth-seeded Hantuchova needed just more than an hour to advance to the
second round of the US Open with a very convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory over the
unseeded Bartoli.
The pair last met in the first round of Wimbledon, where Hantuchova prevailed
6-4, 6-1.
Huntuchova, a quarterfinalist at last year's US Open, out blasted and outlasted
the quirky French woman.
Bartoli's groundstrokes and serves lacked their usual depth and pace, easily
allowing Hantuchova to take the offensive. Hantuchova took control of the match
early on breaking Bartoli's serve three times in the first set. Hantuchova's
groundstrokes were crisp and precise off both wings, producing 37 winners
over the two set contest.
Hantuchova's 2003 results have been somewhat disappointing after her stellar
2002 season. She has yet to capture a title this year - her best result coming at
the Australian Open where she advanced to the quarterfinal before falling to
Venus Williams.
Next up in the second round for Hantuchova is up and coming Ukrainian Julia
Vakulenko.
