Gasquet Becomes the Biggest Qualifying Surprise 

The qualifying action was concluded on Sunday. Many had
come to see the new hope from France, Richard Gasquet, in
action on the center court. The 15 year old player from the
French Riviera played twelve years older Roumanian Adrian
Voinea, quaterfinalist at Roland Garros in 1995. Gasquet
showed no respect for his experienced opponent, winning in
straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Gasquet thought he was a little bit
nervous in the begining, because he was not used to such a
big audience and added: "I played really well today. I am
happy that I received a Wild Card here, because I am trying
to play as many big tournaments as possible." He has already
ensured himself of a Wild Card to the Qualifyings at Roland
Garros, but if the talented Frenchman continues in the same
manner in the near future, he will not need a special
invitation to the next Grand Slam.
