The lone French representative in the draw, wild card Julien Boutter lived
up to the crowd's expectations at the Tennis Masters Monte-Carlo when he
ousted No. 9 seed Sjeng Schalken 7-6(3) 6-4 Thursday.
"It was a difficult match. I started to sweat already after the warm-up, and
my back hurt when I served. That's how tense I was," said Boutter. "Then I
told myself to relax and started to feel more comfortable on the court."
The bearded Frenchman captured his career-first ATP level title in Casablanca
last week, defeating local favorite Younes El Aynaoui in the final, and Monte
Carlo is his second appearance in a Tennis Masters Series event following
Hamburg last year.
"In Hamburg I reached the quarterfinals as a qualifier and scored big wins
over Corretja and Roddick, and I also played doubles, so that was in a way
bigger than this. But you can't really compare the two," continued Boutter.
