Adelaide Tuesday: Pair of Frenchmen Advance Before Rain Arrives
No. 3 seed Arnaud Clement of France and his countryman Michael Llodra
defeated their opponents and the rain Tuesday at the AAPT Championships
in Adelaide, Australia. Clement, who won one ATP title in Metz last year,
and Llodra, a doubles finalist at the 2003 Tennis Masters Cup, both won by
6-3, 6-2 scores early in the day before rains arrived in mid-afternoon.
Eighth-seeded Nicolas Lapentti, who finished 54th in the ATP Champions Race
2003 and was a finalist in Bastad last year, notched his first win of the
season, taking out Irakli Labadze in straight sets.
When the rains didn't let up, six matches were either suspended or postponed
until Wednesday, including Greg Rusedski's match against 18-year-old Swiss
qualifier Stanislas Wawrinka, a finalist at the Roland Garros Juniors last
year. Rusedski, whose last match win on the ATP circuit was in Cincinnati
last August, leads 6-4, 3-1.
