El Aynaoui crashes out
Qatar Open, Doha
Morocco's sixth seed Younes El Aynaoui, crashed out in straight sets to
wild card entry Nicolas Escude on Tuesday.
The former champion lasted little more than an hour as Escude won 6-3 6-0.
El Aynaoui, who withdrew from the doubles with an ankle injury on Monday,
was hardly in the match after losing his serve in the eighth game.
"My goal for this year is just to be able to get on the court regularly,"
said Frenchman Escude, who was plagued by injury in 2003.
Fourth seed Sebastien Grosjean overcame Germany's Markus Hantschk 6-1 7-5.
France's Wimbledon semi-finalist had a few wobbles, slipping up when serving
for the match in the second set at 5-3, but found his rhythm.
"I have had my best preparation for a new season, with no Masters final or
Davis Cup to play and I have more stamina than before," said Grosjean.
Fifth seed Felix Mantilla of Spain beat Jan Vacek of the Czech Republic
6-3 7-6.
And Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela triumphed over Belgium's Christophe
Rochus 6-3 3-6 7-5.
