同上:p Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu retired from his first-round match against Kenneth Carlsen due to a left wrist injury. Mathieu said he injured his wrist during practice on Monday. Thierry Ascione, who scored a 7-6(5), 6-4 win over Rafael Nadal, moved 455 places last year to end the season with an ATP Entry Ranking of No. 89. WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID Mathieu: “I hurt it during practice yesterday. I was close to not playing. I tried but it was very tough to hit a backhand. It was very painful. “It happened with one shot during practice. I made a bad movement hitting a shot and I twisted my wrist. I stopped practice immediately. “I was focused on my wrist and there was pain with every backhand I played. It’s tough to play under those conditions. “I’m going to try to get fit for the Australian Open. I think there is only a slim chance that I could play in Sydney as I had hoped. I want to give myself the best chance of being ready for Melbourne. “It’s the first time I’ve ever had any problems with my wrist. “It’s very difficult to start the year with an injury. I’m going to try to not think about it too much.” Ascione: “I was ready for this year after such a good season in 2003. I have a lot of confidence and it’s great to start with a win. Last year I started the season playing a Satellite; this year I’ve started with a win at an ATP tournament. “I had to concentrate on my game and not give away free points. It was a good match because at the beginning I had problems moving but once I got the break I was more relaxed and I played my best and made a minimum of mistakes.” http://www.atptennis.com/en/newsandscores/news/2004/chennai_tuesday.asp -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.70.206.23
