Jean-Rene Lisnard reached the quarterfinals when he defeated fellow
Frenchman Anthony Dupuis 7-5, 6-3. Lisnard reached his lone ATP semifinal
here in Chennai at the beginning of last year.
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID
Lisnard: “I feel very good here. Last year I had my best result of the
season by reaching the semifinals here. Whenever I get some good pre-season
practice I seem to start the year well."
“I was a break down in the beginning and he was playing very strong. He’s
very powerful. But I did better on the big points; that’s what made the
difference. In the second set I went to the net a little more.”
Dupuis: “I was leading 3-1 and had a point for a double break. Then at 3-2
I had 40-15 on my serve and I didn’t convert. That let him back into the
match."
“He served well and I couldn’t put pressure on his second serve. I didn’t
serve as well as I did two days ago and I didn’t have the same feeling on my
backhand. He put a lot of pressure on me.”
THURSDAY MATCHES
Tournament wild card Prakash Amritraj of India will also be in action as
he opens play on center court against France's Thierry Ascione. The
Frenchman is one of the four players who made the biggest ranking
jumps in 2003. Ascione moved 455 places to end 2003 with an ATP entry
ranking of No. 89.
