13 February 2004 - Emmanuel LANGELLIER
Being as cheerful and as ravishing as usual after her win over Elena
Dementieva, Tatiana Golovin views the semi-finals against Mary Pierce
with equanimity. Being part of the Top 100, she confides that she would
like to play the Olympic Games.
Tatiana Golovin, you are in the semi-finals now, it must be a great
satisfaction.
Yes, it is. I played a good match, I’m very happy with having overcome
Dementieva who is world n°10. I had not played singles for two days so
I was more or less fresh. But the surface is very hard and I could feel
pain in my legs. But tomorrow (Saturday), I will be in a good shape. I
hope to play a good match against Mary. She plays very well, I saw her
playing a bit, and it’s going to be a tough match. I have already won
everything. I would never imagine being in the semi-finals.
Do you think that suddenly everything goes too fast?
Too fast? No I don’t think so. I have already been playing among adults
for a year and a half or two years now. I trained all the winter long and
people who trusted me and who supported me are very glad about that.
Physically speaking, I have improved a lot and I’m rewarded now. I have
entered the Top 100 and that’s great because I thought that I could do
it by the end of the year. I do not realize what’s happening yet.
Have you noticed any attitude changes from people since your achievements?
I think that they have discovered me. I can still walk quietly in Paris.
Your objective was to enter the Top 100. What’s you’re your next goal?
Now, it will be the Olympic Games. It might be a highlight in a player’s
career. That’s legendary. I think that you have to be part of the Top 50.
You will frighten the other French players…
No, I don’t think so… (laughs). That’s still a long way off. Now, I’m
focusing on my match taking place tomorrow.
