11 February 2004 - Emmanuel LANGELLIER
Closely defeated by Elena Dementieva 6-4 in the third set, Stephanie
Cohen-Aloro admits she gave a nice battle on the central court. A positive
feeling combined with a hint of disappointment as she got a glimpse at a feat.
Stephanie Cohen-Aloro, you almost made it against Elena Dementieva…
Yes, I am disappointed about the game because I had 5-1 balls in the first
set therefore I had the opportunity to win the first one. And I easily won
in the second set so I really had the feeling I could win in two sets.
Unfortunately, it was a difficult game and therefore physically exhausting.
We got caught in a trial of strength and physically, in the end, in the last
two games, maybe I gave in a little. Nevertheless, it still remains positive.
Do you think you paid the toll for last night’s game?
I don’t know if it’s because of yesterday’s game or if I still need to
improve myself on the physical level. I don’t know, if I hadn’t played
last night’s game… maybe I would also have given in at 4-4 in the third
set. It’s easy to blame it on “last night’s game”… No, I don’t think
that’s the only explanation.
You hindered a player ranked in the Top 10, that’s a good omen for what
will happen next.
Yes, absolutely. It’s extremely positive to be that close from beating such
a competitor. I haven’t played against many of them in my career so it’s
also quite an experience to go through moments like this. Today, I didn’t
make it but if I keep on like this, eventually I will.
We saw that you have a very high level game. What are you missing to make
it in the top 50, which remains you objective?
First, I have to become aware of my level and gain more confidence. For now,
everything is going on fine. It’s a bit of a new message, different from the
one I had before. For now, it goes right for me psychologically as well as
for my game. So, I hope it will go on.
What are your next dates?
Antwerp next week, Doha, Dubai and the American tour.

"I saw a lot of my family, I took a holiday, I went to Amsterdam to see my
brother, I did all the things I don't have time to do when I am playing
tennis," Escude talked about what he did during his 6-month absence.
