After dropping the first set, the American evened the match, saving two match points and winning a second set tie-break. But Blake then struggled to hold serve in the third, and Mutis ended up with a 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1 victory and a chance to play in his first ATP semifinals. This is the first career ATP tournament for the Frenchman in the United States. Mutis now meets No. 2 seed Andy Roddick, who edged Brazilian Fernando Meligeni 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, to advance to the semifinals for the third straight year and improve his career record to 15-0 in Houston. Roddick led 6-3, 4-3 before Meligeni broke twice in a row to win the second set. The decisive break in the final set came in the ninth game as Roddick broke on his third break point opportunity when Meligeni hit a forehand wide. -------------------------------------------- Mutis: "This is the first year that I am playing in ATP main draws, and this is my greatest victory for sure. Two weeks ago I reached my first ATP quarterfinal in Casablanca, and now I made my first ATP semifinal so I think I can play a good match." About losing to Hicham Arazi after holding three match points in Casablanca, and having held two match points in the second set before Blake escaped: "I didn't want the same thing to happen like Casablanca. I think I can go far and I have a good ranking now, and I look forward to playing in big tournaments." -------------------------------------------- In the other half of the draw, defending champion and No. 2 seed Andy Roddick meets Frenchman Olivier Mutis. Roddick now holds a 15-0 record in Houston, having won the title here in 2002 and 2001. The American would like nothing more than to three-peat in Houston, where he has showcased his talent on clay. Mutis is a newcomer to the ATP circuit. But having scored an impressive win over No. 3 seed James Blake on Friday and having reached the quarterfinals in Casablanca two weeks ago, the Frenchman could pose difficulties for Roddick. Mutis has little to lose in Saturday's semifinal match, playing the brightest American tennis star before an American crowd. Yet, that's the very reason he could be dangerous. This is the first meeting for the two players. -- Hate this and I'll love you. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 61.70.206.23
