http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/2990784.stm Kiefer delights Halle crowd Nicolas Kiefer ensured German interest in Sunday's Halle Open final by coming from behind to beat France's Arnaud Clement on Saturday. The unseeded German, beaten by Yevgeny Kafelnikov in last year's final, dropped the opening set but recovered to win 4-6 7-6 6-4 and set up a meeting with top seed Roger Federer. Clement, who won a three-hour, 22-minute epic against Karol Kucera in the quarter-finals, showed few signs of fatigue in the early stages. After saving five break points at 2-2, the Frenchman broke Kiefer in the ninth game and served out for the opening set. Both players saved break points early in the second set as it headed for a tiebreak. Twice Clement gained the mini-break, but Kiefer, playing aggressively, hit back to snatch it 7-4 and level the match. That seemed to knock the wind out of Clement's sails, and after breaking serve in the opening game of the deciding set, Kiefer held on to serve for the match at 5-4. But the German, who had won just two matches in 2003 before coming to Halle, double-faulted on his first match point and mishit the ball long on his second. The 10,000-strong crowd, however, was put out of its misery when Clement's forehand went wide on the third match point to give Kiefer victory. Federer charged back from a set down to reach his first grass court final, beating Russian Davis Cup hero Mikhail Youzhny 4-6 7-6 6-2. The Swiss alternated brilliant shots with some costly errors in his tour best 42nd season victory. Youzhny had reached the fourth round of Wimbledon the past two years.
