Massu vs Mathieu in the Final
Top seed Nicolas Massu continues his impressive winning streak by
reaching another final on clay. This is his 3rd consecutive final
after reaching the one at the ATP event in Bucharest, and last week
at the ATP Challenger in Sczecin, Poland. This was also the third
consecutive week he defeated Horna. "It is very difficult to do this.
I am more regular and I have played the highest level of my game.
This is the important thing to go up."
Mathieu has played five tie breakers in the tournament and has won
all of them. Player today 5 hrs and 4 minutes with both the quarterfinal
and the semifinal match.
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID:
Massu: "I am in a great form and with a lot of confidence. It is something
really extraordinary to reach 3 consecutive finals and that says a lot
about the moment I am having. I always said you have to take advantage
of the good moments and this is what I am trying to do."
About the final against Mathieu: "I know it is going to be a difficult
match because once you are in a final you have a lot of confidence and
I am sure that is his case. He is a very good player that won 2 big
events last year, but I know what he does and I have to worry about
my game and not what he does."
Mathieu: "The key of all has been that I fought all the time. Even in
the most difficult moments I kept on fighting and that made this
difference. I think I always had the control of the match but still
I had to win it and as I say keep fighting back.."
Martin: "it was tough to play 2 matches in one day but we know that this
can happen. I am sad but happy."
Horna: "Nico has beaten me always and I knew it was going to be difficult.
I was a bit tired due to the match I had to play in the morning but I know
that."
