This is the 4th meeting in 6 years for these 2 former champions. Italy has
won the last 2 match-ups, having lost their first 6 meetings with France.
France is the only nation to have always competed in the top division of Fed
Cup and won the title in 1997 and 2003 though it has failed to advance beyond
the first round twice in the last 3 years.
2006 champion Italy also went out of the competition in the first round last
year, but will be looking to maintain its recent advantage against the French
and progress to the semifinals for the 3rd time in 4 years.
Italy and France are 2 of the 4 nations to have taken part in every Fed Cup
competition to date.
