Noah helps Mauresmo in major bid
Amelie Mauresmo has enlisted the help of Yannick Noah in her bid to win an elus
ive Grand Slam title.
The Frenchwoman will continue to work with coach Loic Corteau but hopes former
French Open winner Noah can help her overcome her nerves in key matches.
A statement on Mauresmo's official website read: "Yannick will help her overcom
e her mental block in big matches, so she can win a Grand Slam.
"Roland Garros will be the first big objective of this new duo."
Mauresmo burst onto the scene by reaching the Australian Open final in 1999 but
she has not reached a Grand Slam final since.
In September last year, the 25-year-old became the first Frenchwoman to top the
world rankings but that achievement came immediately after losing in the last
eight at the US Open.
Her biggest problems have come at her home Grand Slam.
She went into the 2001 French Open as the form player on clay, but stumbled out
in the first round to little-known German Jana Kandarr.
More recently, Mauresmo put in a lacklustre display against eventual champion S
erena Williams in the Australian Open quarter-finals.
What was billed as a potential highlight of the tournament ended with Williams
winning 6-2 6-2.
