Tsonga pulls out of French Open

Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has withdrawn from the
French Open because of a knee injury.

The 23-year-old, who was one of France's best hopes for the tournament
and would have been seeded 14th, pulled out of his scheduled semi-final
in Casablanca on Friday and is now set for surgery on Tuesday.

France's technical director of tennis, Patrice Dominguez, told radio
station RMC: "(Tsonga's coach) Eric Winogradsky called me to say me
that not only would Jo not participate in the tournament, but that
he could not avoid the operation."

Tsonga has been troubled by his knee already this season and took a
month off before Casablanca to recuperate.

He is expected to miss Wimbledon as well as the French, and could also
be a doubt for the US Open.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Kiefer of Germany and Italy's Fabio Fognini have also
withdrawn from Roland Garros.
