Federer out of Basel event with thigh injury

BASEL, Oct 26 (Reuters) - World number one Roger Federer pulled out of the Swis
s Indoors tournament on Tuesday with a thigh muscle tear, organisers said.
The Swiss is expected to be out for at least 10 days but could still be fit in
time for the end-of-year Tennis Masters Cup in Houston, starting on November 15
.
Federer withdrew two hours before he was due to face Peruvian Luis Horna in his
opening round match. He pulled a muscle in a morning warmup session.
The 23-year-old, who has won the Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open grand
slam titles this season, is already guaranteed to finish the year as the world
number one.
Federer was strong favourite to win the title in the town where he was born. He
has never won an ATP tournament in Basel.
His withdrawal leaves Britain's Tim Henman, the world number four, Olympic cham
pion Nicolas Massu of Chile and the world number 10, David Nalbandian of Argent
ina, as the leading contenders for the title.
