lapse

n.小錯,失誤 [A usually minor or temporary failure; a slip]

  ex. a lapse of memory = 記憶的小錯

  ex. a lapse in judgment. = 判斷的小錯

n.時間的流逝,間隔 「an interval or passage of time; elapsed period]

  ex. a lapse of ten minutes before the program resumed.

n.下降 [a fall or decline to a lower grade, condition, or degree]

  ex. moral lapse = 道德淪喪

v.偏離 [to fall or deviate from a previous standard; fail to maintain a normative level]

  ex. Toward the end of the book the author lapsed into bad prose.

v.終止 [To come to an end, especially gradually or temporarily]

  ex. She allowed her membership to lapse after the first year.


ps. laspe的意思很多，但只要掌握住核心概念就不會亂，lapse它的核心概念是從"slip 滑動、滑倒"發展而來的，當一個人滑倒的時候看起來是不是像出了錯了呢。所以laspe最原始就有「a minor error」的意思。接下來，由於slip的概念，lapse也用作時間的滑動，就是指「時間的間隔」，是由一段時間滑過去了而構成的。此外，slip也當作滑"倒"，所以lapse有當作下降、偏離的意思。
