Pitching and Defense
Bailey's best pitch is a sinking, low-90s fastball
that he uses to get groundballs. He got into a
groove with the pitch over the last half of the 2001
season, and he permitted just one homerun over
the last four months. When he buries the sinker in
the dirt early in the count, however, Bailey has to
come back with a less-effective straight fastball.
Bailey can help himself in the field, which is
important with the number of groundballs he
produces. He also did a decent job of holding the
running game in check in 2001.
