'Kung Fu Hustle' Wins Golden Horse Award
Sunday November 13 10:15 AM ET
"Kung Fu Hustle" on Sunday was named best movie at Taiwan's Golden Horse film
awards, considered the Chinese-language equivalent of the Oscars. Stephen
Chou won best director for the film.
The movie, a big winner at the Hong Kong film awards, tells the story of a
landlord-landlady couple who appear aloof in the face of a gang invasion of
their home, but eventually save the day by using their kung fu skills.
In other awards, veteran actress Shu Qi was named best actress and Hong
Kong's Aaron Kwok won best actor.
Shu won for her performance in "Three Times," a sensual examination of three
love affairs in three different eras. Shu played a pool hall hostess, a
retrained courtesan, and a hedonistic rock singer. Kwok was honored for his
performance in the film "Divergence," in which he played an emotionally
troubled police officer obsessed with his missing wife.
