樂曲介紹
《鐵達尼號》從序曲Prologue開始就給予聽者強勢、主導性的音樂影響。第一幕是
u變動前的寧靜」﹐也是各類代表人物亮相的背景介紹。鐵達尼號的設計者湯瑪士‧安
德魯斯（Thomas Andrews）看著藍圖得意自己的「世紀之作」此時唱起了《In Every
Age》。大幕升起之後﹐出現了英國南部的海港Southampton的郵輪碼頭﹐海員與服務人
員們愉悅地檢視這艘「美夢成真」的豪華郵輪鐵達尼號﹐唱起了《How Did TheyBiuld
Titanic?》時間是April 10, 1912;6:00A.M.
How did they build Titanic?
Near a thousand feet in length.
Huge beyond past endeavor.
Strong beyond mortal strength.
Forty-six thousand tons of steel.
Eleven stories high!
She's a great palace, floating*.
Quiet as a lullaby.
接下來﹐船員向岸邊送行的愛人話別﹐然後讚嘆鐵達尼號的壯麗﹐大家唱起了《There
She Is》

接下來同樣的場景﹐時間直接跳到了8:00A.M.《Loading Inventory》﹐所有的工作人
員都到齊了﹐大家互道早安﹐所有船員都角色都上場了﹐這時除了船員之外﹐穿插著裝
載人員的吆喝聲﹐當時港口當然不只有鐵達尼號要裝載貨物﹐但是這艘有史以來最偉大
的郵輪當然是吸引了在場所有的目光﹐在那個時候﹐由於船行要很久﹐所以放上船的東
西要有很多食物等﹐而裝載工人吆喝會先說有多少數量的東西﹐再喊哪艘船以區別﹐他
們吆喝些什麼呢? 我們來看看好了：
7000 heads of fresh lettuce, Titanic!
36000 oranges, Titanic!
42000 fresh eggs, Titanic!
122000 pounds of meat, poultry and fish, Titanic!
40 tons of potatoes, 1100 pounds of marmalade,
37000 bottles of wine, beer and spirits, Titanic!
55000 china dishes and 20000 crystal drinking glasses, Titanic!
One Renault town carriage motorcar, Titanic!
由這些吆喝聲就可以知道到底這艘船有多大載了多少人了！時間過得很快﹐同樣的場景
來到了同一天的10:00A.M.象徵鐵達尼號上的三個管理階層─船東Ismay﹐造船師
Andrews與船長Capt.Smith唱出了男聲三重唱《The Largest Moving Object》這首歌的
曲風在現今的音樂劇中相當罕見﹐這是首具有歌劇風格的三重唱﹐三個人互相在稱讚鐵
達尼號的速度﹐並各自在自喜身為鐵達尼號的船東、造船師與船長有多麼地榮耀！

接下來統艙與二等艙的乘客已經迫不及待地想要上船了﹐等到統艙的管理員Pitman喊出
了統艙可以登船之後大家風擁而上《I Must Get On That Ship》﹐這時三個同時叫做
Kate的女孩碰頭了﹐三個Kate同時住在一間房間裡面﹐待三個人的對話結束之後所有統
艙的乘客有了大合唱﹐這些比較貧窮的乘客大多是把一生大部分的積蓄拿來買張船票準
備到美國一圓掏金夢﹐大家都想把握這個機會到新大陸去一展身手尋求更好的生活﹐
It*s to America we aim to find a better life.
We prayed to make this trip.
Let all our children*s children know
That this day long ago.
We dreamt of them and came aboard this ship!
For the maiden voyage!
For the maiden voyage!
Get us to aboard!
這時二等艙的乘客也開始登船了﹐這些生活條件比較好的人當然心理存的想法與統艙的
乘客不同了﹐他們有的說這是一生一次的機會﹐有的讚嘆是一生一次的難得景象﹐有的
為了趕熱鬧而搭鐵達尼號有的為了結識更多的朋友*..
No account in the national press has quite done justice to this.
It*s a sight once in a lifetime!
Yes, a sight for once in a life time!
Can*t wait to board that ship today,
be with her when she pulls away and take her maiden sail.

這首大合唱的震撼力很大﹐讓聽者都真的很想登上那艘偉大的鐵達尼號去感受那喜悅興
奮的心情！最後是頭等艙的富商巨賈登船《The 1st Class Roster》﹐這裡安排的方式
非常有趣﹐再這些有錢人一一上船的時候﹐由二等艙的一個八卦女人Alice Beane一一
地說出他們的名字介紹這些人的背景財富與一些不為人知的小道消息。最後船員終於唱
出了
This is the last call for boarding.
來提醒所有的乘客再不上船就來不及了﹐此時所有的人以《I Must Get On That
Ship》的旋律大合唱出這首歌的最後﹐然後船員唱出了兩次
All ashore who are going ashore!
告訴大家船要開了﹐此時的時間為當日的中午12:00 Noon。緊接著大家就唱出了
mGodspeed Titanic》

此時所有的乘客都在甲板上﹐向著岸邊送行的家人朋友揮別﹐大家的心情雖然很難過﹐
卻又不免雀躍﹐期待著鐵達尼號帶領著大家安全地到達新大陸去開展一番新生活﹐向著
未知的未來做出挑戰的準備！
在Southamper港口的大場面場景到以上告一段落了﹐接著便是航行間的人物介紹﹐這裡
的介紹是從船艙的底層開始往上走的﹐首先上場的是鍋爐員巴瑞特Barrett﹐就是前面
獨唱《How Did They Build Titanic》的人﹐場景在鍋爐室﹐Barrett一個人在鍋爐室
裡面的獨白《Barrett*s Song》﹐由於這首歌相當長﹐在這裡就不把歌詞打出來了﹐內
容大概是這樣的：Barrett從小就嚮往在海上航行﹐但是他卻不是希望在鍋爐室裡面工
作﹐他看著鍋爐室裡面的工人一鏟一鏟地把煤炭送進鍋爐裡面﹐身旁的東西除了煤炭還
是煤炭﹐熱騰騰的蒸氣讓Barrett抱怨著﹐用生命來換取在一個高貴女士腳底下七層又
暗又陰濕的鍋爐室裡面工作有什麼意義？全船上上下下唯一一樣的只有讓這艘船以驚人
的速度往紐約前進﹐鍋爐室裡面的指針從七十一慢慢地提升到七十五﹐這有什麼意義呢?
但是﹐這才是事實啊！這才是無法改變的事實啊！
Barrett的獨白相當地哀怨﹐卻也很真確的反映出了工人們的心聲。這時﹐場景換到了
艦橋（The Bridge）來﹐年輕的一級管理員莫拓Murdoch唱著《To Be A Captain》期待
著有一天他也能成為一艘船的船長﹐成為那個管理千人的船長﹐只消動動手掌動動嘴巴
就能管理的船長。這是一首很緩慢但是很短的歌。很快的﹐場景又變換到了統艙來了﹐
在兩首比較抒情的歌之後《Lady*s Maid》又代起了高潮﹐由統艙的乘客合唱出到了美
國以後的夢想以及對美國的憧憬﹐不同的人唱出不同的夢想：
I want to be a lady*s maid!
I want to be a sewing girl.
I want to be a governess!
I want to be an engineer!
大家對美國的相同認知就是
In America the streets are paved with gold.
美國連街道都是黃金鋪的。這是一首很美很美的歌﹐充滿夢想的歌﹐聽了以後真的會讓
人很想哭*.裡面還有各種語言代表各種種族的移民*.閉上眼睛聽這首歌似乎自己也真的
要到新大陸去開創自己的新生活﹐腦中浮現了各種美麗的景象﹐尤其是全曲最後

那是多麼美麗的的夢想啊！？
