BROOKFIELD - A University of Wisconsin Milwaukee student studying abroad in
Taiwan has been stabbed. Michael John Toy, 21, from Brookfield has been
attending National Taiwan University.

His parents, David and Anne Toy, are beside themselves. "You never expect
your child to be involved in an incident where it's just a random act of
violence," David Toy explained.

Friday, Mike was attacked by a 23-year-old with a knife. "The man approached
him and slashed him with a knife and cut about a five inch gash on his arm,"
David Toy said. "And my son at that point was pretty much in shock."

After the attack, Mike's parents say, the man with the knife hailed a cab,
and went to a local police station, where he turned himself in.

Mike was taken to a hospital where he is in stable condition.

Mike had surgery on his arm, and will need up to six weeks of physical
therapy. "Right now the doctor's hopeful that he'll have full function of his
hand," his father said.

而醫生亦對日後恢復程度持樂觀態度

Mike's parents are working with local officials to get their outdated
passports renewed, so they can go be with their son. "We thank God that Mike
is doing ok and we're trying to do our best to get over to Taiwan and see
him," David Toy said

Taipei police say the man with the knife has psychological problems. He was
released on bail.
