settlement應該不行吧。settlement的哪個意義適合放在這裡呢？
我猜或許你是認為可以把settlement當作「住處」，的確settlement有這個意思，
但放在這個地方受限於句子結構的問題，應該不行。
如果要把settlement當住處，而句子要有意義，同時文法正確，我想本句應該是：
The billionaire is famed for finding gold in his settlement and becomes rich
overnight.
serendipity不是「意外」，是「意外發現某種有價值的東西的本領（能力）」。
要查字義看英英字典最準。
Merriam-Webster online dictionary的解釋。
serendipity:
the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought
for.
