Brad & Gwyneth & their Monday-morning tabloids April 19, 1996 http://mrshowbiz.go.com/news/Todays_Stories/960419/4_19_96.html Edited by Mary Bruno When your average American wakes up on Monday morning, the first thing he or she does is reach for the Pop Tarts. But let's face it, lovebirds Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow are not your average Americans, and they have a very special, very unique Monday-morning ritual. "What happens," explains Paltrow, "is we get faxes from our publicists every Monday." That's because the tabloids come out on Mondays, and Brad and Gwyneth's respective flacks--God bless 'em--fax their clients all the stories about them. "It's like a joke now," says Paltrow. "We read through them and see what we're doing." As if relationships aren't hard enough! Most of that tabloid stuff, says Gwyneth is "total, total lies." Oh well, at least Gwyneth isn't bothered by the fact that most people still think of her as Brad Pitt's girlfriend. "If a housewife in Wisconsin has to peg me as Brad Pitt's girlfriend, fine," says Paltrow. "I am his girlfriend. But the people who make movies don't. I'm in a great position now. I can choose the work I want, yet if I go out by myself to the mall, I don't get mobbed like Brad." And speaking of Brad, what do Paltrow's parents (actress Blythe Danner and TV producer Bruce Paltrow) think about her young man? "My parents love him, really they do," says Gwyneth. Okay, okay, but how did mom and pop react when they first heard their daughter was dating a movie star? "They were like, 'Aiyeee! God, please,'" recalls Paltrow. "You know what most movie stars are like, especially the young good-looking ones: they've slept with a million people and they're vain and shallow and vapid and everything. And Brad could not be further from that. He has so much integrity, and is a really wonderful person, and they love him." Aw, heck, we do too.
