A Paltrow Family Affair

Beautiful Gwyneth Paltrow was accompanied to the premiere of her latest
film by a handsome older man - her dad. Gwyneth appeared at a film
festival in Canada to promote the screening of Duets (2000), directed
by her father Bruce Paltrow. Gwyneth plays a Vegas showgirl who has an
unexpected reunion with her estranged father, a karaoke con man who
wants nothing to do with her. She says, "I think I got a sense of how
to play her because I'm so close to my own father. He's so important
to me. He means so much to me, that just the thought of being without
him informed how I played the part." And it wasn't just imagination or
good acting - Bruce's health has been failing, and he recently
underwent radical surgery for throat cancer. Gwyneth explains, "My
biggest challenge making the film was struggling with the fact that my
father was so sick. I had to try to be a professional and a grown up,
and not just a scared daughter."
