Director Bruce Paltrow and the Walt Disney Company are finally
singing harmony over the upcoming film, "Duets," which stars
Paltrow's daughter, Gwyneth.
Disney had originally refused to release the film unless director
Paltrow trimmed two shooting scenes. He refused.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter says the stalemate is over, and Disney
will release a revised version of the film.
"Duets," which is set in the world of karaoke singers, was
originally to be released May 5, but Disney's objections to a
couple of scenes they deemed too violent cancelled the release.
The Hollywood Reporter said the two shooting scenes are still in
the movie, but have been altered so that less blood is visible.
One of the sequences involved the murder of a convenience store
clerk. The scene now fades to black before the shooting. The
second showed a karaoke contestant being shot onstage. In the new
version, the "squib hits," which show fake blood spurting from
wounds, have been deleted, although the audience can see blood
in the scene.
"Maybe sometimes you get a little too close with things," Paltrow
told The Hollywood Reporter.
"With the cuts, the audience response was better than it was
before. I stand corrected."
"Duets" is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in
September, The Hollywood Reporter said.
