NEW YORK (Variety) - Gwyneth Paltrow is near a commitment to star for
Miramax in ``View From the Top,'' a romantic comedy to be directed by
Oscar-nominated Brazilian filmmaker Bruno Barreto.
The film, about a small-town woman trying to achieve her goal of
becoming a flight attendant, is on the runway and cleared for takeoff
as her next film. Filming begins in December.
Paltrow, who won the Oscar for ``Shakespeare in Love,'' finds herself
back in the employ of the Weinstein brothers, for whom she and Ben
Affleck star in the Don Roos-directed ``Bounce.''
She has been recently courted for a bunch of films that include the
David Hare-scripted adaptation of Michael Cunningham's Pulitzer Prize-
winning novel ``The Hours'' as well as the Wes Anderson-directed ``The
Royal Tenenbaums'' at Disney. She is also expected to star for Peter
and Bobby Farrelly in ''Shallow Hal,'' a Fox film.
``View From the Top'' originated as a spec by first-time writer Eric
Wald. Miramax recently brought in Barreto, whose credits include
``Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands'' and ``Four Days in September.'' His
last picture was the Sony Pictures Classics release ``Bossa Nova.''
