On the heels of one of the most publicized breakups of the year,
Gwyneth Paltrow may, just may, be dipping her big toe into the dating
pool. The New York tabloids are hinting that Brad Pitt's ex-fiancee
may have found romance with up-and-coming Chasing Amy star Ben
Affleck. Seems Paltrow and Affleck were getting rather cozy at
Thursday's New York premiere of Good Will Hunting, which Affleck both
co-wrote and co-stars in with his longtime friend Matt Damon (The
Rainmaker). While rumors of the alleged romance have been brewing for
a few weeks—even as Paltrow was being paired off with Boogie Nights
star Mark Wahlberg—Gwyneth and Ben have maintained their distance—
until now.
The two were reportedly holding hands and whispering during the film's
post-premiere party. "She really likes him," an insider tells the New
York Post. Affleck, for his part, gives the standard denial to the New
York Daily News: "We're just friends," he says, "Her mom [Blythe
Danner] and my dad go way back." Perhaps it's a status symbol for
rising young stars to woo established actresses: Damon is dating
Minnie Driver, who also stars in Good Will Hunting.
Pitt, for his part, hasn't exactly been at sitting at home eating
Ho-Hos and pining away for his Gwynnie. He's reportedly now seeing
German director Katja von Garnier, whom he met three years ago in Los
Angeles and reconnected with in September at the Toronto Film Festival.
They were spotted holding hands throughout the German premiere of
Pitt's Seven Years in Tibet, but the actor's rep insists that they're—
you guessed it—"good friends."
