Gwyneth Paltrow apparently has never heard the cliche, "absence makes
the heart grow fonder." The Emma star admits that she doesn't like to
let fiance and former "Sexiest Man Alive" Brad Pitt out of her sight
for too long, and she says that's the reason why she turned down the
chance to star as another Emma. Paltrow passed up the role of superagent
Emma Peel in the upcoming film The Avengers, and lost out on her chance
to star opposite Ralph Fiennes (Uma Thurman will play Peel). "Brad had
already signed to do a film (Meet Joe Black) in New York for the
summer," Paltrow told Entertainment Weekly. "It would have meant a
four-month separation." The actress, who ended up staying on location
in Argentina with Pitt for much of the filming of his next flick, Seven
Years in Tibet, won't be far from her love when she starts her next
film. She and Pitt are set to co-star in Duets, which will be directed
by Gwyneth's father, Bruce Paltrow. The couple will play karaoke
singers in the film, which is described as an anthology piece.
In other Pitt news, the Devil's Own hunk says he regrets calling the
film "the most irresponsible bit of filmmaking--if you can call it
that--that I've ever seen." He tells MSNBC that "I know what I'm
talking about, but I feel badly because I didn't realize I wasn't
covering all the angles. It's just my fault. I just think I wasn't
clear about the difference between pre-production and actual filming."
Ah, well, that explains it.
