BOUNCE
(106 mins., PG-13) Review by Owen Gleiberman
In this romantic drama of lovely and all-too-rare understatement,
Ben Affleck plays a nice, charming guy who's a scoundrel at the
same time, and the paradox looks good on him. Affleck's Buddy is
an L.A. ad executive who offers his plane ticket to a stranger.
When the plane crashes, Buddy goes through a bit of a crash
himself, sinking into booze and guilt and making contact with
the stranger's widow (Gwyneth Paltrow). The romance that
commences is based on trust, communion--and deception. Written
and directed by Don Roos, Bounce is quiet and sad and lyrical;
the two actors hold you with the matching gentleness and
vivacity of their spirits. A- (#570, Nov. 24) --OG (Posted: 11/28/00)
