AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2006: The Draw
The draw for the 2006 Australian Open was made today. This year's edition
features the greatest ever women's draw in the event's history with 5 former
winners, and a total of 10 grand slam champions. Justine is seeded number 8,
and her first round match will be against Poland's Marta Domachowska ranked
number 55 on the WTA tour.
Justine's return to Melbourne will start with young Polish Marta
Domaschowska; this will be their first meeting. It is Domashowska's second
entry into Australian Open main draw, and only fifth grand slam played in her
career.
The road map to the final includes a possible 4th round with Venus Williams,
another meeting with great veteran, and number 1 seed Lindsay Davenport in
the quarterfinal. There may be fireworks with Maria Sharapova or Nadia
Petrova in the semi-finals.
The bottom half features the comeback WC Martina Hingis, Mary Pierce, Kim
Clijsters, Amelie Mauresmo, and Patty Schynder.
