MIAMI 2007 - The Draw

The Sony Ericsson Open 2007 draw was released on Monday afternoon, defending
title holder Svetlana Kuznetsova assisted in the ceremony. World #1 Justine
is seeded in at #2 due to the March 5 rankings being used as reference. Maria
Sharapova is seeded at #1. The Belgian tennis icon will play her first match
on Friday or Saturday against the winner of Vania King versus Tian Tian Sun.
Justine received a bye for round one.
Justine has played American Vania King (Wta # 78) once before and that was in
the 2nd round at the 2006 US OPEN, but has never faced Tian Tian Sun. The
player from He Nan China shot to fame back in 2004 by taking her nation's
first Olympic gold medal for tennis by winning the doubles final with Ti Li.
She is currently ranked in singles with the Wta at #77.
If all goes well for Justine she may play last week's Indian Wells Tier 1
winner Daniela Hantuchova in the 4th round. The quarterfinals could be
another meeting with Nadia Petrova or Dinara Safina. The seeds in the
semi-finals section for Justine are Kim Clijsters, Jelena Jankovic, Na Li and
Tatiana Golovin.
The top half of the draw features an intriguing array of names Serena
Williams, Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Martina Hingis, Venus
Williams, Lucie Safarova, Nicole Vaidisova, Ana Ivanovic and Patty Schynder.
But only one of these players will be Justine's opponent if she makes it to
the finals.
