休伊特邁阿密退出被罰款 澳洲野兔備戰法網時間緊

墨爾本30日消息，澳洲野兔休伊特又被ATP罰款了，罰金是51000美元，不過這一次不
是因為他在場上的過激行為或是因為他的無袖上衣，而是因為他缺席了上個月的邁阿密大
師賽——當時休伊特因為腳傷作了手術並且幾乎不能行走。
現世界排名第二的休伊特已經上訴ATP請求撤回罰款，因為他當時實在是傷勢嚴重而
不能參賽。休伊特是在輸掉了印第安維爾斯大師賽決賽對費德勒的比賽後告知ATP的官員
自己不能繼續參賽了，但那時已經過了邁阿密大師賽名單的截止期。所以休伊特會因為賽
前臨時宣佈退出而被罰款25500美元，並且又因為自己是種子選手而被追加罰款25500美元
休伊特這一次確實很冤枉，不過他已經提供了有力的證據來為自己辯護，其中包括自
己腳傷的具體細節。現在這些證據已經被ATP首席執行官邁爾斯接受了。原來休伊特在當
時的決賽前就已經受傷了，他本來不想參加最後的決賽了，但考慮到自己在比賽期間受到

LLEYTON Hewitt has been fined $51,000 for missing the Miami Masters
last month - when he was surgery-bound and barely able to walk.
Hewitt, 24, is appealing against the ATP fine that was imposed for
his late withdrawal from the Key Biscayne tournament.
The world No. 2 told officials he would not be able to play the event
soon after losing the best-of-five sets Indian Wells final to Roger Federer.
But Hewitt's withdrawal came after the Miami deadline had lapsed.
He was docked $25,500 for the scratching and was nailed a further
$25,500 for pulling out as a seeded competitor.
The Hewitt camp hopes the fine will be revoked.
Hewitt is understood to have submitted evidence to ATP chief executive
Mark Miles.
The Hewitt defence is believed to include details of the foot injury,
which almost prevented him contesting the Indian Wells final.
Hewitt is thought to testify he would not have played the final against
Federer if not for the high regard in which he holds the Californian
event and its tournament director Charlie Pasarell.
Federer told Hewitt's coach Roger Rasheed immediately after the final
he sensed Hewitt was struggling to move in the pre-match warm-up.
Federer won 6-2 6-4 6-4.
Miles is also believed to have correspondence from Australian Davis
Cup doctor David Brooks, who operated on Hewitt's right foot in Adelaide
last month.
A cyst was removed from Hewitt's damaged foot. He was also suffering
chronic pain in several toes.
Hewitt will point to how he spent his time immediately after the Indian
Wells final as the deadline loomed.
He was obliged to undergo drug testing, complete mandatory media commitments
and then consulted a tournament doctor for assessment.
It was only then he was able to make contact with Miami officials. But by
then the deadline had passed.
Hewitt's injury cost him the chance to consolidate his No. 2 ranking
behind Federer with non-appearances in Miami and Monte Carlo.
He has resumed full training but is unlikely to be ready for Monday's
start to the Rome Masters.
He is more likely to contest the Hamburg Masters in 10 days' time in
preparation for the French Open from May 23.
Hewitt was yesterday confirmed as a certain starter for the Stella Artois
Championships at Queen's Club in London from June 7-12.
