(1) Simple sentence ＝ Subject ＋ Predicate ( 述語 )

＊      The negative adverb "not" is not part of the verb
＊      The object of a preposition is never a subject

(3) Complement ( 補語 )
                    ：Direct object ( 直接受詞 )
                   ＊ Indirect object ( 間接受詞 ) ex We gave "her" the book.
                      Predicate noun ( 名詞述語 )
                      Predicate pronoun ( 代名詞述語 )
                      Objective complement ( 受詞補語 )
