The fact that he scored his first league goal for nearly five years did not
enter the thoughts of Anthony Gardner when he came to assessing the defeat to
Everton.
收穫五年來第一個聯賽進球的Gardner一點也不開心。
The central defender netted with a downward header to level the score on 26
minutes after Joleon Lescott nodded the visitors into the lead with the clock
ticking towards just two.

Parity was not preserved however and Everton responded with two somewhat
fortunate strikes to give themselves a two-goal advantage going into the
break. Despite pressing forward, hitting an upright and forcing the best of
of Tim Howard, the scoreline remained unchanged when the final whistle
sounded.
Anthony's last goal was a winner against West Ham in 2002. His emotions this
time were a complete contrast.

"It was a bad start for us with conceding a goal inside two minutes," he
reflected. "I lost my man in the area and it put us on the back foot.

"From there we tried to take the game to them and got an equaliser, but then
we conceded another two, which gives an away team a big lift and the option
of sitting back and playing on the break

"It made it difficult for us in the second half to try and break them down,
with them being able to get men behind the ball," added Anthony, who went on
to outline the determination to quickly add points to our account."

the three points against Derby - that is what we have to do."
