Spurs staff face touting claims
Four employees of football club Tottenham Hotspur have been held for
allegedly passing on tickets to a tout.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said the staff and a suspected tout were detained
in the early hours of Monday.
Police were alerted to alleged irregularities in the ticketing operation
following an internal audit by the north London Premiership club.
The workers, three women and one man, and one male suspected tout, have been
bailed until August.
The police spokesman said: "Four employees of the club and one suspected
ticket tout were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud the club of
ticket sales revenue and false accounting."
In a statement on its website, Spurs said it had been concerned for some time
about due process relating to the ticketing operation.
It said: "A routine audit recently highlighted irregularities and, as these
relate to issues external to the club, the police are now investigating."
