McCain自從2000年就反對對乙醇燃料的反對政策了，而這項立場
在2000年跟2008年看來都對他在Iowa的選情造成相當的衝擊。
2000年McCain在Iowa的得票是5%(6位參選人中倒數第二名)，2008
年好一點，13%(第四名)；都相當的悽慘。不過連極端保守的黑人
政客Alan Keyes在2000年的Iowa caucus都可以拿到14%(這老兄也
客串Obama在2002年競選Illinois參議員時的對手)，McCain
在Iowa選情不好似乎不只是乙醇燃料政策上的問題，應該相當程度
還是跟社會保守或宗教保守的選民看不對眼的緣故。
順便一提，紐約時報時報的OP-ED The Real McCain個人覺得值得一讀
，讀完後會對McCain的好感度上升不少。
儘管上面那篇文章說了不少McCain的好話，不過McCain本人的立場並不
是一直都那麼的一致。
這是McCain在2003年的談話:
Four years later, McCain hadn't changed his tune. "Ethanol is a product that
would not exist if Congress didn't create an artificial market for it. No one
would be willing to buy it," McCain said in November 2003. "Yet thanks to
agricultural subsidies and ethanol producer subsidies, it is now a very big
business - tens of billions of dollars that have enriched a handful of
corporate interests - primarily one big corporation, ADM. Ethanol does
nothing to reduce fuel consumption, nothing to increase our energy
independence, nothing to improve air quality."
能夠講這種話的政治人物，相信具備了相當程度的良知與勇氣。
然而2006年年底，準備競選總統的McCain說出了這段話:
"I support ethanol and I think it is a vital, a vital alternative energy
source not only because of our dependency on foreign oil but its greenhouse
gas reduction effects," he said in an August speech in Grinnell, Iowa, as
reported by the Associated Press.
立場顯然有了大幅度的轉變，不過這對他在Iowa的選情助益有限。
不過根據這篇2008年5月8日的報導，McCain看來是又回到了原來的老立
場。

甚至對McCain偶爾說些笨拙的謊言有不錯的評價XD
該作者指出:"This year he claimed that he liked ethanol after all,
but he was so manifestly insincere and incompetent in this pandering
that the episode was less contemptible than amusing.

His most famous pander came in 2000, when, after earlier denouncing the
Confederate flag as a “symbol of racism,” he embraced it as “a symbol of
heritage.” To his credit, Mr. McCain later acknowledged, “I feared that if
I answered honestly I could not win the South Carolina primary, so I chose to
compromise my principles.”
看來McCain雖然做為政客的職業需要，偶爾仍得說些言不由終的話，不過以
政客這行的標準來看，McCain已經比其他人更有勇氣說出自身的信念了。
...似乎有點離題，不過雖然我和該文作者一樣不贊成保守派路線與保守派政治
人物，不過仍然不免覺得McCain的性格相當有趣XD

這一篇是2005年的新聞，取自Obama的參議員官網。上面可以看到在2005
年時，歐巴馬是大力支持乙醇燃料補助政策的。第一篇也提到Clinton女
士早先也支持這項政策，不過我暫時還沒找到直接引用Clinton相關說法
的新聞。

不過，在這篇今年五月四日的新聞
，Obama跟Clinton的立場都轉向反對。
總之，McCain是從上個世紀末就開始表示反對立場，雖然之間不免用些甜話
討好Iowa選民，不過應該還是看的出他對這個議題的真心話是什麼。Obama在
2005年時支持，現在則改成反對。當然McCain先知先覺，值得敬佩，不過既然
兩邊在這項政策目前的立場都差不多；Iowa種玉米的農民就算不爽氣也只能往
肚裡吞了。(還是要改成支持能夠讓他們賺大錢的小黨或獨立參選人?)兩大陣營
哪邊拿在Iowa勝出的關鍵，看來應該是誰比較有能耐讓Iowa選民忘記他們跟
這個議題的關聯吧XD
