HOUSTON - Watch the pregame introductions Monday night when the 76ers face
the Milwaukee Bucks at the Wachovia Center. The team hopes public address
announcer Matt Cord remembers how to dramatically intone "...Annnnnd, a 6-
fooooot guard from Georgetown..."

If the latest timetable coach Randy Ayers has been given is accurate, that is
when Allen Iverson will resume playing.

Iverson, out with a bruised right knee, will have missed 10 straight games
after tomorrow afternoon's meeting with defending NBA champion San Antonio,
and 11 games this season.

Ayers said Iverson's return Monday was the most likely scenario all along,
even though Ayers had held out hope that Iverson might be able to join the
team during its five-game Western swing. At the same time, Ayers openly
wondered about Internet and talk-radio stories attaching controversy to
Iverson's absence.

The closest thing to controversy came a couple of weeks ago, when Iverson was
excused from a practice at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine 
because of illness at home, then was ringside that evening at a boxing 
extravaganza in Atlantic City. At the time, Sixers president/general 
manager Billy King said the situation had been "handled internally."

King did not seem outwardly concerned that it would be a lingering issue.
Internet and talk-radio reports have attempted to link that situation with
Iverson's missing the road trip.

"It's hard for me to comment on things that people say that I don't think
there's any truth behind," Ayers said. "I was not going to rush him back. I
think Allen really felt the injury was a little bit more serious than he
initially thought, to be honest. Allen will battle back and play through pain
an awful lot."

The Sixers are 4-7 this season without Iverson, but have won only two of
the last nine. Frontcourt presence Marc Jackson, still recovering from a
fractured ring finger on his left hand, did not play in nine of those 11
games. Aaron McKie (strained left hamstring) sat out the second half Sunday
in Phoenix and then the next two games.

"The time of making excuses for people being injured is long gone, long
over with," guard Eric Snow said. "They're not going to change the schedule.
"
