Whatever else might have given them trouble, the Rockets could simply score.
They did not defend well in the first half. It did not matter. They led much
of a hefty lead slip away. No problem.

For a second-consecutive game, the Rockets seemed able to roll through
offensive bursts whenever the mood or need struck, blasting the Toronto
Raptors 117-101 on Tuesday at Toyota Center.

The Rockets had returned home a week ago after a winless three-game road
trip, getting run off the floor by the Lakers in the second half and by the
Jazz in the first half. They declared a goal of sweeping the three-game
homestand to get back to .500, then did better than just sweep the games.
They beat the Bulls then blew out the Knicks and Raptors with their two best
offensive games of the season.

Harden had 24 poitns and 12 assists. Omer Asik added 13 points and 18
rebounds, giving the Rockets three players with double-doubles and with
double-digit assists for the first time in a game since Chuck Hayes and Kyle
Lowry in March 2011.

Kyle Lowry did not come close to that in his first game against the Rockets
since he was dealt to the Raptors in the off-season.  Lowry finished with
seven points, making just 3 of 10 shots, with five assists. His eight
rebounds led the Raptors.

The Rockets followed Friday’s 72-point first half with 61 in the first half
on Tuesday then rolled to a season-high 38 points in the third quarter to
blow the game open. They hit 7 of 11 3-pointers

After happily torching the Knicks on Friday, the Rockets offense continued to
click through the first half. They seemed, however, to enjoy it too much,
spending little energy on the other end other than to clear the boards when
the Raptors did miss.

The Rockets led for all but 28 seconds of the first half with Jeremy Lin and
Marcus Morris each hitting 4 of 5 shots and Harden making up for misfiring
(he made 4 of 12 shots) with playmaking, getting nine assists. The Rockets
had just two turnovers in the half and were all over the boards, getting nine
offensive rebounds and nine second-chance points against the best defensive
rebounding team in the NBA.

On the other end, however, they did not interfere with the Raptors offense
almost at all. With the Raptors running their offense easily, Andrea Bargnani
went from a 2 of 19 shooting day on Sunday to making 7 of 9 shots in the
first half on Tuesday, scoring 19 points. The Raptors made 55 percent of
their shots in the half, enough to remaining in the game down 61-51, the
Rockets’ largest lead of the half.

When the Rockets stepped up their defense in the third quarter, without
slowing down offensively, they rushed the lead to as much as 27.
