After a text from Jeremy Lin, Rockets reflect on making playoffs


Informed via text message by guard Jeremy Lin that they had clinched a
playoff berth with Utah’s loss to Oklahoma City, most of the Rockets enjoyed
a celebratory meal Tuesday night after their win over the Suns at Toyota
Center.

“We had dinner and hung out and just kind of reflected on everything we did,
” Lin said. “Our team is getting closer off the court. We just enjoy being
around and in each other’s company. It’s not like it’s forced. That’s a
good thing. When we get on the court, we want to play for each other. That’s
a big part of chemistry.”

Lin said there were two groups of players who dined together and that “
pretty much everyone was there” to celebrate the playoff berth, which he
acknowledged was a long shot entering the season.“We definitely didn’t
think we’d be here coming into training camp – seventh seed with a chance
of getting the sixth, and in the Western Conference, too,” Lin said. “I was
hoping we’d be here, but if I were to be realistic, I (thought) we would be
fighting for the eighth spot, not the sixth. Or us to be fighting for the
sixth spot, I’m happy about that.

“I just didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t want to come in with high
expectations or making bold promises or guarantees. Our goal was hopefully to
make the playoffs … and now we’re going for seeding and things like that.”

“大家一起吃飯聊天，反思一下我們所做的一切。隊友之間場外關係也逐漸密切，享受彼
此陪伴，沒有任何勉強。這是好事。在場上，我們想為彼此而打球。這是我們團隊間的默
契很重要的一環。”

林說有兩組的球員一起吃飯，幾乎每個人都來了。

“季前進入訓練營，誰都沒料到會有今天-- 在西區排名第七，而且有機會爭取第六名。
我希望我們進入季後賽，但就現實來說，我以為我們會爭取第八，而不是第六。我感到很
高興我們有爭取第六名的機會。”

“我不曉得要抱什麼期望。我不想有太大的期待，或做出大膽的承諾或保證。之前我們的
目標只是進入季後賽-- 而現在我們能談爭取排名和其他事情。”

“I think the coaching staff really needs to get a lot more credit for what
they do. A lot of people talk about the players because we’re the ones
playing but our coaching staff is really talented. The way they coach us,
just trusting us enough to give us that freedom, and to be able to coach us
in what that freedom should look like, generally speaking – I think that’s
pretty hard to do.

great personality, players’ coach, we all really respect who he is and how
he does what he does.”

提到冰箱，林說：“海爾教練幹得很好。他經歷了很多個人方面的問題。我還沒當過父親
，不曉得經歷那樣的悲劇是怎樣的一個情況。不過教練所做的，他的活力、很好的個性、
扮演球員的教練，讓我們全都很尊敬他這個人，行事風格和他所做的事。”
