Rockets report: Lin promises memorable trip


He didn’t use the word, but Rockets guard Jeremy Lin practically guaranteed
Tuesday that Linsanity will abound when the Rockets visit Taiwan in October.

The NBA announced Tuesday that the Rockets and Pacers will play Oct. 10 at
the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila and Oct. 13 at Taipei Arena in Taiwan as
part of the league’s eight-game preseason world tour.

Regarding the game in Taiwan, Lin, whose parents are natives of the island,
said, “It’s going to be definitely the most wild game that we will have all
season will be over there, I can promise you that. Their fans are crazy, man.
It’s going to be crazy.”

Lin said some of his “most hardcore fans” are in Taiwan and that he loves
visiting there, adding, “I get a lot of love out there.”

週二（美國時間），NBA官方公佈火箭和溜馬先是今年的10月10日將在菲律賓馬尼拉打
一場季前賽，10月13日兩隊移師臺灣進行二番戰。這也是NBA八場海外季前賽的一部分。

Asked about the public reaction when he visits, he said, “I don’t go in
public over there.”

有記者問林書豪，當他去臺灣的時候，公眾反應如何？林書豪回答到，“在那，我真的不
敢去公眾場合。”

It will be the NBA’s first game in the Philippines since the Bullets played
a Philippine Basketball Association all-star team in 1979 and the league’s
second game in Taiwan.

火箭跟溜馬在菲律賓的季前賽將是1979年華盛頓子彈隊拜訪菲律賓之後，舉行的第一場

In addition, the Thunder and 76ers will play in Istanbul, Turkey, and Bilbao,
Spain, respectively, against Euroleague Basketball teams in those cities and
will face each other in Manchester, England.

The Bulls and Warriors will stage the NBA’s first game in Brazil at Rio de
Janeiro, and the Lakers and Warriors will play in Beijing and Shanghai.

A better Brooks

Aaron Brooks’ return Tuesday to Toyota Center was a mixture of the familiar
and the new – familiar faces behind the scenes, unfamiliar ones on the
practice court.

“It’s like two different teams,” he said. “You’ve got the owner and the
general manager and the president all the same, but a whole bunch of new guys
(in uniform). But everybody seems pretty cool, and I’m glad to be back.”

Coach Kevin McHale said it is too soon to speculate on how Brooks will share
playing time at point guard with Jeremy Lin and Patrick Beverly, and Brooks
said he will be ready when called upon.

“I have a particular skill, and McHale is a great coach,” he said. “I’m
sure he will utilize me when he sees fit. … He said I’ve got to work for
minutes, and I wouldn’t’ expect anything else.”

Brooks said his familiarity with the Rockets played a major role in his
decision to seek a contract buyout in Sacramento and sign with Houston. He
signed for $2.4 million for the rest of the season, with a second season
worth $2.5 million at the team’s option, according to an individual with
knowledge of the deal.

“I’d like to think I’m better, smarter, a (few) more years on me,” he
said. “I’ve been in two or three different situations since I’ve been
here. This is a great opportunity. … I’m looking forward to creating better
memories.”

Jeremy Lin has roots in Taiwan and has a rabid fan base there. He visited
both Taiwan and China last summer. Now, his Rocket teammates and coaches will
get to see all of this firsthand.

"It'll be great," Brown said. "I talked about it with Jeremy a little bit
before, when we were in the early stages (of planning this Taiwan/Philippines
trip) and he had said what a great experience it was when he was over there
for his tour this past summer. I've also talked about it with James (Harden).
When he and I were talking about it, he's excited for the ability to kind of
get out on a global stage and to see what else is out there."

This branching out by the NBA isn't just restricted to Taiwan and the
Philippines. The Lakers and Warriors will be playing each other in China. The
Bulls and Wizards are headed to Brazil. The 76ers will play in Spain and
England. And the Thunder are headed to Turkey and England.
