Blasi back from the brink Tuesday 16 March, 2004

Manuele Blasi’s doping ban expires on Wednesday, but the
Parma midfielder admits he is frightened of testing positive
again.
“I want to make up for the five months I have lost by playing
out of my skin for the remaining nine games of the season,”
revealed the Gialloblu star.
“The problem is that I still don’t know why my test came out
positive for nandrolone. I am terrified of everything that I
come into contact with, from an aspirin to shampoo.”
Blasi has always maintained his innocence, but was unable to
prove how his levels of the anabolic steroid were raised above
the legal limit.
He failed a routine test after Parma’s September 14 win over
Perugia and was handed a five-month ban – set to expire tomorrow.
There were reports he was set to be called back from his season-long
loan to Juventus in January, but will now stay on at the Tardini.
“The Juventus directors told me not to worry,” revealed the
Under-21 international, “but that’s very difficult when you’re
in this situation. For the moment I am thinking only of Parma
and getting back on to the playing field.”
