Salas open to Monaco move Sunday 13 July, 2003
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marcelo Salas may finally be on his way out of Juventus after he accepted
Monaco as a possible destination.
The Chilean striker has turned down a number of clubs this summer but the
French Principality meets with his approval.
"The negotiations are at an advanced stage," revealed agent Fernando Hidalgo.
"Marcelo is happy with Monaco, a place where he can return to the champion
he once was."
The 29-year-old was strongly linked to Monaco last week and a deal is believed
to be on the horizon.
Juve transfer guru Luciano Moggi has spoken to Monaco boss Didier Deschamps
- a former Juventus player – and he seems keen on the striker.
Salas has had a disastrous time in Turin since his move from Lazio two years
ago. He suffered a knee ligament injury in his first season and rarely
featured last term.
The striker, who has only scored two League goals for the Bianconeri, is way
down the pecking order of strikers in Turin.
He is currently fifth choice behind David Trezeguet, Alex Del Piero,
Marco Di Vaio and Fabrizio Miccoli.
