Kit sounds better in Cantonese

KIT CHAN sounds better when she sings in Cantonese, and this is
no more apparent than in her best-of compilation.
The lilt of the dialect and its seven intonations seem to give
greater play for her expressive voice than what Mandarin could
afford.
Chan has always tended to be a little over-dramatic in her
Chinese songs, as if to compensate for the language's limitations.
Thankfully, Cantonese serves as a more than effective platform
to showcase her crisp and clear voice.
A good case in point is Carry On Loving, which is Lover in Mandarin.
With a warm softness, Chan elicits greater empathy for a woman
with an undying faith in love.
Or take Missing, a track which belies an anxiety over whether
her lover would miss her when she goes AWOL. She is pitch-perfect
in straddling defiant nonchalance and forlorn hope.
Incidentally, her best-of Mandarin hits is also out in the stores.
It will be interesting to compare the two and note how far she has
gone from being another homegrown singer to a star in her own right.

不過 只要再出幾張像逼的太緊或是入戲太深其實我也會很興奮
等待潔儀的新國語專輯
