High-energy performances by famous homegrown and
foreign stars marked the party in Orchard Road to
unveil new looks for the Chinese press
THE Chinese Press Concert 2000 on Thursday was a
night of revelation.
The four-hour extravaganza not only unveiled a
new look for Lianhe Zaobao and new afternoon editions of
Lianhe Wanbao and Shin Min Daily News, it also showcased
the funky world of Chinese pop and entertainment.
With an ensemble of homegrown and foreign stars coupled
with the wacky antics of comperes Jack Neo and Mark Lee,
the event drew hundreds of people, jampacking the entire
Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza.
It seemed that everyone at Orchard Road had converged at
the outdoor party.
And why not, with famous names like Kit Chan, Jeff Chang
and Ma Jingtao performing high-energy song and dance items.
In fact, fans of Taiwanese ballad prince Chang were present,
armed with banners, screams and all.
Taiwanese actor Ma, who stars in The Legendary Swordsman,
now showing on TCS 8, proved that he could sing as well as act.
But it was Singaporean Chan, with her posse of dancers,
who stole the show with her nifty dance steps and vocal talent.
She wowed the crowd as she belted out songs from her latest album, Lola.
