And now, the Chinese Women's Association has put these contacts to good use in fundraising. In its gala dinner performance yesterday, all the actors and singers, most of them familiar names, performed free. The cabaret show, Thank You For The Memories, was to raise funds for the Henderson Senior Citizen's Home. The CWA owns the home and has been managing it since 1978. Among the big names in the show was the musical director, Phil Shapiro. Flying in from Britain to direct the show, he has over 40 years of experience in music and is well-known in the drama scene there. Appearing on stage last night were popular homegrown singer Kit Chan, her sister Jo Chan, also an accomplished performer, Perfect 10 DJ Georgina Chang, Elvis impersonator Wilson David, and Fame Awards semi-finalist Zachary Mosalle, among others. The show was devised by John Faulkner, one of the pioneers who set up the Lasalle School Of Drama here in 1991. He was roped in by his wife, Cecilia, one of the 300 members of the women-only association. Subsequently, Shapiro and the others were brought in through various personal contacts. For instance, the Chan sisters were students of Faulkner's drama classes at Lasalle. Said Mrs Faulkner, who assisted with the show: "This is a chance for members to enjoy themselves, yet at the same time raise funds for a worthy cause." The cabaret performance, which reflected the years that have passed since CWA was founded in 1915, featured music and songs by Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Dick Lee. While David, as Singapore's Elvis, performed a hit from G.I. Blues, Kit Chan sang selections from her musical Snow.Wolf. Lake and Miss Saigon. All 38 tables for the performance were snapped up, raising over $100,000 for the Henderson home.
