Kit Chan Receives Young Woman Achiever Award
by Patrick Chng
Dated: 03, March 2000
Singapore songbird Kit Chan was named Young Woman
Achiever by Her World, a local women's magazine.
At last night's "Woman of the Year 1999" awards
organized by the magazine, Chan became the first
recipient of the Young Woman Achiever award which
will be given out annually.
100 year-old Teresa Hsu received a Special Award
for her humanitarian work for the poor and aged
sick. Jennie Chua, 55, president and chief operating
officer of Raffles International Limited and general
manager of Raffles Hotel, was named Woman of the Year 1999.
At Chan's press conference held at Planet Hollywood
yesterday, the 28 year-old pop star says, "I feel
like a baby! I also feel so small next to them because
I feel I've done nothing. They are so amazing especially
Teresa Hsu. She's never been on salary and her whole
life is volunteer work. Not to sound feminist or anything
like that, I feel the status of women in the world has
changed and there are a lot of things we can do. After
meeting the two ladies, I realized that there are many
dreams of mine which are achievable."
Journalists at the intimate press conference also asked
Chan about her recent Nepal trip and her book of poetry
that was published in Taiwan. Below are video clips from
the press conference.
