Kit Chan | Campus concert @ NUS
Tan Yng Jich | 29 Jul 2000
Kit Chan dazzled the undergraduate population of the National
University of Singapore on 26 July (Wednesday) when she performed
at the new University Cultural Centre.
Unlike the usual campus concerts organized by popular Mandarin
station Y.E.S. 93.3FM, this particular concert was held in a
massive "opera-house" like venue, with dancers and an unplugged
session. The concert started at around 6.15pm, after almost an
hour’s wait for the big crowd of Kit’s fans and students.
Filling the auditorium to almost full capacity, the crowd
expected the best from the singer herself, and indeed, she does
not disappoint.
Kit appeared in a sheer light purple, embroidered top coupled
with a tight cream colored pants, trimmed with sequins down at
the side. Starting off the concert with a fiesty rendition of
"Ni Cool", written by Liang Wen Fu, together with her dancers,
Kit titillated the crowd with her smooth dance moves.
Going through a string of songs that is taken from her latest
album "Lola", Kit displayed every ounce of the professional
singer that she is. From the slow and sentimental "Ta Bu Shi
He Ni" to the ultra-attitude, ultra-energetic track composed
by Kit herself, "Zhong Yi Wang Ji Le Ni De Sheng Ri" the crowd
was treated to her various musical talents. In the unplugged
section, Kit, accompanied by two guitarists, performed a few
of the crowd’s favourites. Her strong vocals, complemented
by the guitar, reverberated throughout the auditorium.
At the end of her hour long concert, there was a surprise in
store for Kit, some thing that she was not told before hand!
Kit received for her best selling album, a gold award.
Presented to her by SPVA, she was pleasantly surprised and
happy to receive the award. Repeating the plea by SPVA to
stop buying pirated CDs, Kit urged the members of the
audience to support the local music scene by not buying
pirated CDs. Not only that, as the Youth Ambassador, Kit
will be making a trip to Africa come National Day to help
the poor as well.
Too soon, the concert came to a complete end, Kit then proceeded
to a mini-autograph session, where she signed CDs as well as a
book that she published. This talented lass has almost thirteen
CDs in her name, published a book as well as performed in many
concerts around the region. Now, as she sets off to do charity
work and act in a movie, perhaps it’s time for Kit to have her
very own concert at last.
